Tramontana XTR: 176 caballos más Filed under: DeportivosPincha la imagen para ver la galería Al Tramontana lo conocemos más que bien. Tenemos la suerte de conocer a Joan Orús y su equipo de SunRed, en parte encargados de desarrollar el vehículo cuando pasó de concepto a coche "real". Años después estuvimos en la presentación de su variante "R" mejorada, y ahora vuelve a la actualidad con la aparición de los primeros bocetos del XTR, una nueva evolución que posiblemente veamos en el Salón de París o en el de Ginebra a lo largo de los próximos meses. Respecto al Tramontana conocido, el XTR evoluciona su mecánica de origen Mercedes, V12 5,5 litros sobrealimentada, para llegar a los 876 caballos nada menos. Estéticamente vemos pocos cambios, pero algunos de ellos significativos, como los grupos ópticos delanteros, que pasan de estar situados en lo que hacía de cuerpo superior del alerón frontal a montarse en un cuerpo único delante de las ruedas, logrando una apariencia más estilizada. No cambia nada del monocasco o suspensiones, lo que es una buena noticia, dado el desarrollo que ya llevaba encima. Además de este nuevo XTR, Tramontana actualizará el resto de su gama, con la opción de montar motores V10 atmosféricos de VAG (origen Audi R8) para aquellos que no quieran gastarse tanto dinero como el que se va a pedir por el XTR (cerca de medio millón de euros). Tramontana asegura haber fabricado siete unidades del "R". Desconocemos las condiciones de homologación de estos nuevos modelos. Video: Toyota Prius Solution: When you're dead, you can't pollute Filed under: Hybrid, Videos, Hatchback, Toyota, Humor Let's make this clear from the get-go: we know this is satire, courtesy of The Onion. Of course, like all good comedy, the idea for the new, fictional Toyota Prius Solution model contains a grain of truth. After all, if you aren't alive, you really can't add to the world's environmental problems any more. Any questions? Obviously a riff on the whole "Pious" side of the Prius-driver stereotype as well as taking blind environmentalism to its logical extreme, the Prius Solution manages to put a bloody twist on the Prius "family" branding that the automaker has been promoting since early 2010. It's kind of gross, so you've been warned. That said, anyone who's been punctured backbone-to-sternum also can't work to solve world's environmental problems, but that's a discussion for another time. Enough talk. After Nissan reported - again - that monthly sales of the first mass-produced U.S. electric vehicle continued to disappoint, our friends at Plug-in Cars realized something: the Nissan Leaf is kind of like the original Honda Insight. Introduced to the U.S. in late 2010, the Leaf might be falling out of favor with the U.S. public because it's too ahead of its time and because it doesn't quite have the combination of attributes - i.e., range, cost, size - needed for car buyers to take the leap into EVs. This is pretty much how the first-gen Insight - the first hybrid sold in the U.S. - was received. Debuting in late 1999, that Insight was rated at 70 miles per gallon and was what Plug In Cars called a "wonderfully inventive first attempt at something new." The model also sold just 17,000 units before being discontinued in 2006. Originally, Honda had hoped to sell 6,500 units a year. This week, Nissan announced that it sold 395 Leafs last month, down from 535 in June and down sharply from the 931 units sold a year earlier. It wasn't until the second-generation Toyota Prius arrived in 2004 that hybrid sales took off. Hilarity ensues. Seinfeld picks up the British funnyman in a 1967 Austin-Healey 3000, which Jerry claims is a car that says "Damnit I love British sports cars and I will go down with that ship if I have to." Upon arrival Gervais admits that he did not know the Austin was a British-built car. Auctions: Roush, Greg Biffle build custom Ford F-150 SVT Raptor for charity Filed under: Aftermarket, Truck, Auctions, Ford, Design/Style We normally associate Roush Performance with the Ford Mustang, but the company's latest project involves the F-150 SVT Raptor. The tuner has teamed up with Greg Biffle, who drives for the Roush Fenway Racing in NASCAR, on the build as part of the Sherwin-Williams Planet Color All-Star Charity Challenge, pitting them against Toyota driver Clint Boyer to see who can design the best custom truck. The NASCAR rivals have gone in significantly separate directions, with Boyer designing a '50s-style work truck based on the Tundra and Biffle coming up with the flashy off-roader pictured above. Roush has fitted the SVT Raptor with items like their TVS2300 supercharger system good for 525 horsepower, a performance exhaust system, custom 18-inch wheels shod with 35-inch BFGoodrich tires, TireGate tire carrier and light bars front and rear. So what determines who built the best truck? The winner will be decided by the almighty dollar, with both trucks going to auction for charity. Biffle's Tundra already sold at Barrett-Jackson's Orange County auction, raising $100,000 for the Emporia Community Foundation, while Biffle's SVT Raptor will look to beat that number at Barrett-Jackson's Las Vegas event in September. Antes deberá ser presentado en el Salón del Automóvil de Sao Paulo y, por lo que hemos visto hasta ahora, a muchos seguro que les compensará la espera. El nuevo HB20 será un producto desarrollado en exclusiva para Brasil y otros países de la región. A pesar de haber buscado el máximo ahorro en los costes, no será un automóvil con un diseño sencillo y un interior mediocre, sino que estará en un buen término medio en ambos apartados. Dos motores (1.0i y 1.6i, ambos Flex), dos cajas de cambio (manual y automática) y hasta tres carrocerías serán las que formen la oferta del modelo una vez se haya completado, si bien el primer formato en ver la luz será el hatchback, y para más adelante, también un sedán y un crossover. The electric-vehicle maker has been sued by Rio Real Estate Investment Opportunities for what the developer says was an agreed-upon deal for Tesla to produce its Model S battery-electric sedan in New Mexico, according to website Gigaom. Tesla allegedly reached an agreement in early 2007 to have Rio Real Estate build a 150,000-square-foot factory and lease it out to the automaker for $1.35 million a year for 10 years. Instead, Tesla decided to start Model S production in California after reaching an agreement with Toyota in 2010 to make the cars at the old NUMMI Toyota-General Motors joint venture plant in the San Francisco Bay Area. We asked Tesla for comment on the matter, but spokeswoman Shanna Hendriks told AutoblogGreen that the company does not comment on pending litigation. Nissan launches Serena S-Hybrid in Japan Filed under: Hybrid, Nissan, Japan Japanese soccer moms, rejoice!Nissan started selling a hybrid version of the Serena in Japan this week, the first time Japan's best-selling minivan has gotten the green treatment. The Serena S-Hybrid gets 15.2 kilometers per liter in two-wheel-drive mode (there's also a four-wheel-drive version), which equals about 36 miles per gallon (on the lenient Japanese driving cycles) and is about 25 percent more fuel-efficient than the conventional Serena. That improved fuel economy will cost you, since the Serena S-Hybrid starts at about 2.38 million yen ($30,250), compared to the gasoline-powered version's base price of 2.16 million yen ($27,500). The conventional Serena sold about 50,000 units in Japan during the first half of the year. Pues bien ahora te traemos el vídeo en el que esa misma unidad aparece luciendo estampa... ¡y que estampa! Como siempre Mazda ha sabido combinar practicidad y dinamismo. Según ha comunicado la marca, esta unidad está equipada con el nuevo motor 2.0 SKYACTIV-G y tiene especificación europea. Is this the world's first Bugatti Veyron art car? Filed under: Coupe, Performance, Bugatti, Misc. Auto Shows, UK, Design/Style, Luxury The fourth annual Wilton Classic and Supercar Festival goes down on August 5th, and organizers of the event have come up with a supremely fast attention getter: a Bugatti Veyron art car. Well, almost. The Bug was wrapped in vinyl that was designed by an artist we've written about before, Ian Cook, known as Pop Bang Colour, who immortalized an image of the Chevrolet Camaro on canvas using radio-controlled cars. Among the Gulf-inspired livery you might notice that this particular Veyron is called the "BUGARTI," typo intended. The livery isn't for nothing, with a Gulf-liveried McLaren F1 GTR Longtail scheduled to appear at Sunday's event. If you can get there, we've heard it's worth it. Video: EVO compara el Ferrari F12 con el 599 GTO Filed under: Ferrari, Deportivos Ya tenemos uno de los primeros vídeos de un periodista (anglosajón, como no) probando el nuevo Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Jethro Bovingdon fue el elegido para ir a Italia a meterle mano al nuevo Ferrari. Lógicamente, necesita una referencia con la que comparar el F12 para hacerse una idea de hasta qué punto el nuevo modelo es mejor que el anterior. Supone tal salto hacia delante que no le queda otra que compararlo con el 599 GTO. Un modelo que ya era más rápido que el Enzo en una vuelta a Fiorano a pesar de tener "sólo" 660 CV. Como era de esperar, el F12 es todo un éxito.
